Using Family Photos in Stunning Wall Displays
Thoughtful groupings of themed images can create unique decorating interest in carefully selected areas of the home.
Using your own images to decorate within the home offers an opportunity to display and share treasured images, create design focal points, and add a personal touch to selected rooms.
The approach used will clearly be a personal one. However, there are some rules of thumb and suggestions that may be helpful.
Photo Wall Grouping Suggestions and Tips
● Many designers plan a wall grouping as a focal point and emphasize the group aspect. This typically means that the grouping will have a theme, images will have similar color and intensity characteristics, and perhaps share sizes and frames. The theme aspect may be images in a collection (postcards, ticket stubs) or a collection of photos/images that represent a theme such as family milestones or trips.
● Framing is a personal preference. A
clean simple look can be accomplished by using ready made matching
frames such as black metal frames often found in museums. Such
frames can be purchased online at Dick Blick Art Materials Frames and Framing Supplies.
● Plan the arrangement carefully by trying different arrangements on the floor. First try using pieces of paper to create a pattern, and finally test the pattern with the framed images before making any marks on the wall..
● Most designers strive to place the focal point of the grouping at eye level. If the display is to be in a hall, eye level is clearly at standing eye level. If the arrangement is to be in a sitting room, the arrangement may be best at either sitting or standing eye level.
