Preface
Photo images are among a family’s most prized possessions. Both older photo prints and newer digital images are an important record of a family’s history and shared experiences. With some basic skills and guidance, it is relatively easy and very satisfying to take steps to improve the organization, preservation, and sharing of family photos.
The aim of this book is to provide the basic skills and the level of guidance needed by most families to become confident in planning and completing a broad range of family photo projects. Regardless of whether a family’s ultimate objective is to simply better organize old family photo prints or to begin a more challenging project such as creating a consolidated and searchable digital image library, this book provides the knowledge and guidance required to design and complete many family photo projects at varying levels of challenge.
Improved photo organization will lead to improved storage and preservation, and improved organization and storage will lead to easier and increased sharing of photo collections with both extended family and friends.
By presenting family photo collection topics and projects in simple and well defined steps, skills described in this book can be learned and developed as time allows.
Some of the many topics covered in this book include a suggested methodology for sorting and organizing images, digital scanning and printing, digital image sharing opportunities, proper photo storage, and several suggested family photo projects. This book also includes an explanation of the basics of digital imaging and helps to demystify digital terminology and concepts.
This book was written to provide readers with the knowledge, skills, and project inspiration needed to creatively organize and share family photo images for the enjoyment of their extended families, both now and into future generations.
